Each month, Code the Dream celebrates a volunteer who has made a unique impact to our community. This month, we’re excited to celebrate Gina Castromonte, a Software Engineer at SOMOS.tech and current Cohort Instructional Leader for our Node.js classes.
As a Cohort Instructional Leader (CIL), Gina is the technical lead for our summer 2024 Node.js class and serves as the main liaison between students, volunteers, and CTD staff. She is instrumental in making sure students feel welcomed and prepared for our classes, and she regularly checks in on student progress and supports their growth.
In addition to volunteering with Code the Dream, Gina is active in Women Who Code and has introduced several CTD members to their community through hosting one of our Skill-IT professional workshops.
Tell us about yourself!
I initially began coding as a hobby using the Mimo app. Soon, I discovered a passion for building projects and solving code challenges. I learned JavaScript, Node.js, React, and Express at Fullstack Academy. I enjoy meeting new people in the industry and learning from them. I also love participating in hackathons, creating projects, and exploring new frameworks and concepts to improve my skills. Currently, I’m a Frontend Developer at Somos.tech.
How did you get involved with Code the Dream?
I got involved with Code the Dream in October as a mentor and code reviewer. I really enjoyed getting to know the students assigned to me and helping them with their projects. I noticed that many had demanding full-time jobs and were doing this bootcamp in their free time. I admired their resilience and dedication, which inspired me to continue my own learning journey.
Students shared about why they appreciate Gina:
“Gina was a great mentor this semester! I appreciate that she is attentive, patient, and takes time to explain and work through the problems I am stuck on.”
Ashley, React.js student
“Gina was always patient, always ready to help, and her feedback helped me find the important solutions!”
Nataliia, React.js student
Thanks, Gina, for your commitment to our community!
