Staff Spotlight: Ming King

May 10, 2024 by Forrest Norman

At Code the Dream, more than 50% of our staff are CTD alums. Our latest hire, Ming King, completed CTD Learns classes and was hired as a junior developer in 2023.

In this short Q&A, you can meet one of the newest additions to the CTD team!

Where are you from and where do you live now?

I live in San Francisco, California but I’m from Changchun, a city in northeastern China. After college I moved to Shanghai and started my career as a Software Quality Assurance Engineer there.

Ming King

Why did you decide to apply for CTD Learns?

When I was working as a QA, I was always admiring what developers do. I would watch them make some changes in the code, and the changes would magically appear in the webpage! I wished I could do something like them. After migrating to the States, I had an unexpectedly long career break. That was not a fun time, but I’m glad I took advantage of it to take different computer science classes from a local community college and another nonprofit organization. And I’m glad I found Code the Dream! After hearing about Code the Dream, I applied and started taking the Ruby on Rails class in 2021.

What is something memorable or notable about your CTD experience?

I feel that CTD is a place to help me make my dreams come true. When I first started Ruby on Rails class, I didn’t know what I was doing. As the class progressed, I gradually got a better and better sense of what I was doing.

Now I’m a full stack developer. I appreciate that CTD allows me to learn new tech skills, and trusts me with opportunities to put what I’ve learned into practice. I’m confident that I’m doing what I like and I can do a good job here!
