Code the Dream Welcomes a New Class!

Alejandra Rodriguez · Oct 22, 2019

Code the Dream is excited to welcome a new class of programming students. This cohort is unique because it is enrolled in our first online-only class. Because of this, we are able to expand our reach beyond the Triangle, enrolling students from a number of states and four different time zones!

Our new students come from a diverse range of ages and backgrounds:

  • Our cohort is comprised of 24 women and 18 men.
  • Over half are immigrants, with students who have come to the U.S. from Korea, the Dominican Republic, Nigeria, and Khazakstan, among many other countries.
  • Almost half of our students are from the Triangle; students are also joining us from other parts of North Carolina, California, New York, and the Midwest.
  • The cohort ranges in age from 16 to 49, although the average age is 30.

Many of our students are parents, some are first-generation college students, and others are looking for a fresh start in their career. Each one brings a unique set of skills and experiences to Code the Dream, and we can’t wait to share more of their stories as the class gets underway.

“When you do get something like the motorcycle bill, where you have the old bill and the new bill, this shows a side-by-side snapshot where you can see exactly what’s changed. Discerning those changes quickly allows more time to add depth to reporting," Boughton said.
