Happy Father’s Day from Code the Dream

June 15, 2025 by Alex Rodriguez

This Father’s Day, Code the Dream is celebrating dads!

Senior Developer Cruz Nuñez and daughter

We pride ourselves on being a family-friendly organization. Many of our students are working dads, and our remote, part-time classes with supportive mentorship help busy parents find the time they need to learn. Our high-level curriculum is designed to teach the skills needed for a job in tech, helping parents take a major step toward a financially secure family future.

Code the Dream also counts many fathers among our apprentices, developers, and other staff. They get the support and encouragement to prioritize family that we give our students because we know that, ultimately, family is what drives dads.

Meet two of the dads on our staff!

Alton Michaux is a developer and mentor who first came to CTD in 2020 with no coding experience. He made the leap into a new career as a coder and never looked back. “The work we do at Code the Dream is positively affecting people directly, and that’s just a really great feeling,” said Alton.

Now, he looks forward to teaching coding to his young children, who have already expressed interest in learning more about what their dad does at work. “It’s nice to have something I can directly pass on to them,” Alton said.

Senior Developer Cruz Nuñez

Senior developer and mentor Cruz Nunez was part of the very first CTD cohort and is now building his career in a way that allows him to be present and supportive for his family in a fulfilling role.

“I can work from home, be a creator, and make beautiful and useful pages that many people can use and benefit from,” said Cruz.

So Happy Father’s Day to all the dads. And if you are a father who thinks getting a job in tech is the next step for you and your family, apply for our free, remote classes at codethedream.org/apply.

The Holistic Software Engineer: Why A Non-Linear Path is the Future of Tech
In the rapidly changing world of technology, a lingering myth still circulates in HR offices and C-suites from a bygone era: the only path to becoming a world-class software engineer is a straight, uninterrupted line through a computer science degree to a traditional corporate tech company. We fundamentally disagree.
