Code the Dream was recognized for benefits access work during Dec. 9 awards gala
Code the Dream is proud to announce it has been selected as a 2025 winner of the Purpose Driven Innovation Award at the NC TECH Awards. Winners were recognized at the NC TECH Awards Gala on Tuesday, December 9.
Code the Dream was recognized for its public benefits screener, MyFriendBen-NC. Since launching, MyFriendBen-NC has connected over 7,000 households across 98 of North Carolina’s 100 counties to life-changing resources. The tool is available in 18 languages, and most users find about $2,500 in monthly benefits.

Code the Dream has partnered with over 20 community-based organizations, including NC211/United Way, the NC Navigators Consortium, and Legal Aid of North Carolina, to ensure the screener reaches all who would benefit.
“This work is truly a collaborative effort,” said Dan Rearick, Co-Executive Director of Code the Dream. “We’re grateful to our project team for the countless hours they dedicated to building MyFriendBen-NC, as well as our funders and partners, who share our commitment to the health and well-being of all North Carolinians. We’re honored that NC TECH has recognized the vital service MyFriendBen-NC provides to our community.”
MyFriendBen-NC is made possible through the support of Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust, Leon Levine Foundation, Families and Workers Fund, Cone Health, and Dogwood Health Trust.
“Since 1995, the NC TECH Awards has honored excellence and innovation throughout North Carolina, representing the best and brightest,” said Brooks Raiford, president and CEO of NC TECH. “As a winner, Code the Dream has distinguished itself as a peer-leader, and we are proud to recognize them as a 2025 NC TECH Awards winner.”
The NC TECH Awards is North Carolina’s only statewide technology awards program, held by the not-for-profit, membership-driven trade association. The awards recognize companies and individuals who have demonstrated growth, innovation and leadership.
