Ways to Join our Employer Partnership Community

Connect and Share

Speak with our Employer Partnership team to share hiring opportunities. We can post the role for all or match participants based on the specifics you request. You will have a CTD main point of contact so that the relationship can grow and be as efficient as possible.

Tandem Apprenticeship

Our Tandem Apprenticeship is a unique way for companies to work alongside Code the Dream Labs. Increase the diversity and productivity of your tech team in just a few short months while opening life-changing opportunities for new software developers from underrepresented backgrounds.

Program Participation

Your company and staff can join our Code School or Apprenticeship programming by volunteering. This allows us to get to know your team more and for your company to develop relationships with students, apprentices, and CTD. This can lead to talent referrals that make your hiring process a dream come true!

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Equitable Representation. Code the Dream has spent years building up one of the most diverse tech communities in the country. Our community of CTD grads and apprentices is over 1,500 strong and growing. CTD Code School Grads and CTD Labs Apprentices (as well as our CTD staff and Leadership) >60% Black or Latinx and >50% Women. 
  • Equitable Income. Before CTD, our participants are often unemployed or making <$15/hour. After CTD, our Grads and Apprentices have a median starting salary of >$80,000! Every $1 invested in our organization increases a participant’s lifetime earnings by $44! 
  • Increased Opportunity. Through our programs and Employer Partner relationships, over 90% of our CTD participants start careers in technology each year. 
  • Increased Awareness. CTD, participants, and partners have been recognized for our impact with awards: NC Tech Difference Maker of the Year, NextTech, GSK Impact Award, White House Champion of Change and media coverage: BBC, NPR, UNIVISION, U.S. News, Fast Company, Durham Magazine, and more.
  • CTD Code School Grads are graduates of our Code School. They receive a high-level education in Software Development with mentorship from industry professionals and a team capstone project. They learn programming fundamentals and Javascript basics, before going on to learn about one or more of the following: NodeJS, React, and Ruby on Rails. 
  • CTD Labs Apprentices are some of our top-performing CTD Code School graduates. We offer the opportunity to be part of our selective, 1-year CTD Labs Apprentice program, where they gain real-world experience by building apps and websites for clients, with the guidance of experienced senior developers. They further their professional skills in a remote and hybrid setting using Agile Methodology while working closely with clients.
  • CTD Code School Grads will have focused on one or more of the following: ReactJS, NodeJS, and Ruby on Rails. All grads will have experience in JavaScript.
  • CTD Labs Apprentices have experience in one or more of the following: ReactJS, NodeJS, Ruby on Rails, JavaScript, SQL, MongoDB, TypeScript, Jest, PlayWright, and more. They will also be familiar with Agile Methodology, project management skills, and the professional skills required to collaborate closely with clients.
  • CTD Code School Grads typically get jobs as entry-level to junior-level software developers. 
  • CTD Labs Apprentices generally get jobs as junior-level to mid-level software developers.

CTD participants come from an amazing variety of backgrounds — hiring them means bringing that variety of thought and perspective into your organization! 

Regardless of education, we have found that the lived experiences of these remarkable individuals speak to intelligence, work ethic, and ability to innovate and see things from a fresh point of view.

  • About half of our participants have a college degree and a few years of professional experience in fields like education, hospitality, engineering, etc.  
  • Some participants will have a master’s degree and 5+ years of professional work experience. 
  • Some of our participants are refugees and immigrants from other countries who will not have a formal US or foreign college degree and bring incredible drive and lived experience to any organization.

Currently, we do not charge anything to become an Employer Partner with CTD. If your company decides to participate in our Tandem Apprenticeship, there will be a cost associated with that program, but it is tailored, scoped, and created by both organizations.
