Meet Dan Polityka, CTD’s Volunteer of the Month for April 2023!

April 20, 2023 by Alex Rodriguez

As a nonprofit tech organization, Code the Dream relies on software development volunteers to make our program a success. We are grateful to have dedicated volunteers who lead mentor sessions, assist with pair programming, review assignments, and much more.

But some volunteers go above and beyond. We are excited to celebrate their contributions through our Volunteer of the Month series.

This month, we are celebrating Dan Polityka, who has volunteered as both a mentor in our Node.js classes and as a practicum group leader. Thank you, Dan, for the huge impact you’ve made on CTD students!

Tell us a little about yourself.

I currently work for KTB Global as a software engineer. I got started coding because I wanted a new job that wasn’t boring. My best friend is a senior security engineer, and he recommended that I look into full stack web development. I did some self-learning and then attended a bootcamp called Springboard. About 6 months after graduating, I discovered CTD by chance and thought it was an incredible organization.

What has been meaningful about your experience with Code the Dream?

The best feeling is watching students learn and get new careers. It feels awesome seeing students go into so many various roles and seeing what they build.

CTD students share their gratitude for Dan

“Dan’s guidance has truly made a difference in my progress. I appreciate his willingness to answer my questions, offer feedback, and check in to see if I need help. His knowledge has been a source of inspiration, and I feel fortunate to have him as a mentor.”

Cinthya G., Node.js Student

“Dan is always so down to earth and helpful. He gives great advice, not just about programming in general but about the industry itself.”

Jaheem P., Node.js Student

“Dan was an amazing help during practicum. He really showed how there are so many ways to get to a goal. I am grateful to have been able to learn so much from him.”

Dahlak K., CTD Apprentice

“Dan anticipates problems before they appear and mentors in many different ways. I love how he approaches communication with different people, trying to find a best-in-time way to get everything communicated clearly and to the point. I really enjoyed working with him!”
