Daisy shares her CTD experience

Last year, I decided to learn coding. I used online tutorials and youtube videos, made notecards and outlines, but I never felt like I had a grasp of the material until the Code the Dream class.

Suddenly, everything that I studied on my own started making sense. Code the Dream has given me a framework and a foundation for learning not just Ruby, but other languages as well. I have learned more in six weeks with the class than I did in all the time I studied alone.

On the first day of class, I definitely had the “first day jitters”.  I wondered if I could keep up, if it would be competitive, if I was even cut out for it.  I was relieved to realize that the class was not competitive, but collaborative.  From day 1, we have been helping each other and learning together in the process.  The material is challenging, but our instructors Ramiro and Jared are excellent teachers.

When the class ends, my classmates and instructors and I have plans to build some apps.  Building an app may have seemed impossible 6 weeks ago, but it’s possible now.  In that way, Code the Dream has been both exciting and empowering.
